Reconstruction of motorways in Greater Salzburg/AT

Initial situation

Austria has an extensive motorway network that largely consists of concrete road surfaces. In many sections the traffic volume is high even outside rush hour, so closing individual lanes can lead to traffic disruption. For this reason, the reconstruction work is often undertaken in short closures at night or between rush hours.
On some sections of the road, there is damage due to edge breakages that need to be repaired. Typically, the individual damaged areas are small and are spread over wide stretches. The marginal conditions make it impossible for the concrete to be transported to the construction site by mixer truck. Extremely long open times with simultaneously very short periods for hardening would be needed.

Solution concept

Concretum® Q-REP fulfils the demands set.
It is easy to handle and can be mixed on site using an agitator or a small compulsory mixer while adding water. The open time is typically 10 minutes (at 20-25°C) but can be adjusted according to customer requirements.
After removing the damaged area and blowing the dust, it is merely necessary to dampen the damaged area with a sponge or brush before applying. This ensures the bond between the old and new concrete.
Compared to standard systems, Concretum® Q-REP offers the following advantages:

  • Cement-based (therefore has the same expansion behaviour as the rest of the concrete pavemen)

  • No primer coat required

  • Can be driven on approx. 1 hour after start of hardening

  • Low temperature development during hardening

  • Lower shrinkage than conventional rapid-hardening mortar solutions

  • Not sensitive to moisture, which makes application possible in high humidity or light rai
