Trial Placement - Tollway Chicago

The first of two planned trials with the construction company Plote Construction Inc. took place on the Chicago Tollway.

The first test with Concretum® Q-FLASH 2/20 rapid hardening concrete was carried out on the night of April 24th to 25th. Concrete production took place in concrete mixers. The concrete remained workable for approximately 100 minutes, sufficient time for transport to the construction site and installation. The collaboration with the construction company Plote Construction Inc. and S.T.A.T.E. Testing L.L.C worked very well and everything was executed perfectly. Tollway Illinois is very satisfied with the results achieved and the properties and characteristics of the Concretum Q-FLASH 2/20 high-early strength concrete.

The next morning the highway was reopened to traffic on time.

These are the strength results obtained:

Compressive strength (Cylinder):

  • 4 hours after concrete production – 3920 psi (27 MPa)
  • 6 hours after concrete production – 5050 psi (34.8 MPa)

Flexural strength (4-point test):

  • 6 hours after concrete production - 585 psi (4 MPa)

We would like to thank Plote Construction Inc., Illinois Tollway and S.T.A.T.E. Testing L.L.C for their support and cooperation that contributed to the success of this project.
