To ensure Bern Railway Station can continue to fulfill its role as a central hub, it is undergoing a major expansion. As the second-largest station in Switzerland, it plays a crucial role in both domestic and international rail traffic. Currently, it has reached its operational and spatial limits.
To quickly make the Eilgut area available again for train storage, the excavation site was covered with a concrete slab. Construction work continues beneath this slab, while pile drilling to secure the excavation site proceeds in parallel.
A total of 800 m³ of fast-drying high-tech concrete, Concretum® C-DRY, was produced at the Novakies AG concrete plant and transported to the site using mixer trucks. The concrete was then pumped and compacted with vibrators.
Concretum® C-DRY achieves a moisture content of less than 4.0 CM-% within 48 hours, enabling quicker progression to subsequent steps such as the application of waterproofing.
