A new SBB bridge is part of the extensive construction works at the Glocke junction for the Eastern Bypass Bad Zurzach project. For these works, the SBB railway line will be temporarily closed. SBB granted an extended weekend possession. To make efficient use of this time, work is carried out continuously – from Friday evening at 22:00 until Monday morning at 04:45.
During one weekend in June, the civil engineering teams of ERNE Tiefbau and Hochbau relocated a 250-ton SBB bridge within 38 hours. The scope of work included:
After demolition of the existing bridge including both abutments, the new abutments were cast using Concretum® Q-FLASH 2/20 SCC rapid-hardening concrete. Already 30 minutes after the start of setting, the concrete had sufficient strength for backfilling the abutments. After another 60 minutes, the concrete achieved a compressive strength above 20 N/mm², allowing the installation of the new heavy bridge deck. The new bridge spans 17 meters and was prefabricated. The new bridge’s roadway transitions were constructed during the night leading into Sunday using Concretum® Q-FLASH 2/20 rapid-hardening concrete. Here, too, the rapid strength development of the concrete contributed to completing all tasks within the tight schedule.
