Renovation road/bridge joints Bern city bypass

The Bern City Bypass is one of the busiest national highway sections in Switzerland. It includes over 10 kilometers of motorway, along with several junctions and interchanges around the city of Bern.
All damaged roadway joints needed replacement. The work was conducted during nighttime to minimize traffic disruption.

Concrete Production
The fast-setting concrete Concretum® Q-FLASH 2/20 was produced at the nearby Worblaufen plant and transported to the construction site via truck mixers. Once the old roadway joints were removed and the new elements installed, the quick-setting concrete was used for grouting.

Special Properties of the Quick-Setting Concrete
The concrete was pre-adjusted through trials to ensure a workability time of 2 hours.
Two hours after the setting process began, it achieved a compressive strength of over 20 N/mm².
Within 3 hours, the moisture content dropped below 4.0 CM-%, allowing waterproofing to be applied the same night.

Customer Benefits
Thanks to the use of the fast-drying and quick-setting Concretum high-performance concrete, the closed lane on the Bern City Bypass was reopened before the start of early morning rush hour traffic.
