When the heavy traffic on the K31 in Lucerne slowly clears in the evening, the construction team's real work begins. The task: to build a pressure distribution plate over an existing relief channel – quickly, reliably, and without disrupting the morning commute.
The client, the canton of Lucerne, relied on the cooperation of Stutz AG (Willisau) as the contractor, the engineering firm CES Bauingenieur AG (Hergiswil), and the concrete plant Belag und Beton AG (Rothenburg). Concretum® Q-FLASH 2/20 was chosen for the crucial building block – the concrete.
Night work began at 7:30 p.m. The concrete was mixed directly on site in a truck mixer (FAMi) under the supervision and quality control of Concretum engineers. Precision and speed were of the essence: the excavation pit had to be filled and compacted as quickly as possible so that traffic could flow freely again the next morning.
The concrete was installed at around 10 p.m. – and just one hour later, at 11 p.m., the required compressive strength had already been achieved.
This marked the decisive moment: the freshly concreted slab could be filled and compacted immediately. By the same night, the cantonal road was already load-bearing again – and ready for the next wave of traffic.
Conclusion: Thanks to the combination of Q-FLASH 2/20, on-site production in the FAMi and technical support from Concretum, closure times were reduced to a minimum. Where other concretes are still curing, the road is already open again with Concretum®.
