Due to the increased load on the road surfaces at the Penthaz roundabout caused by the numerous logistics companies in the region around the village, the roundabout had to be repaired frequently until now. The task was as follows: to replace the roundabout slab quickly, reliably, and permanently using the whitetopping method.
The canton of Vaud, as the client, commissioned a team of engineers in collaboration with the construction company Marti AG and the concrete plant BGO SA to determine, produce, and install the key component for the construction project, Concretum® Q-FLASH 2/20.
A total of 100m3 of Q-FLASH 2/20 was placed on the roundabout during two night closures. With normal structural concrete, the roundabout would have had to be closed for two days. With Q-FLASH 2/20, the roundabout was able to be reopened in time for rush hour traffic at 6:00 a.m. each day.
The night closures began at 8:00 p.m. each night, followed by the milling of the existing asphalt.
At 11:00 p.m., the concrete for the asphalt layer to be replaced was produced and delivered. At midnight, the installation of the concrete could begin, and by 2:00 a.m., the traffic area was ready for post-treatment and cleanup.
Conclusion: Thanks to Concretum® Q-FLASH 2/20, the closure of the roundabout was reduced to a minimum and, in addition, the durability of the roundabout was increased many times over.
