Zurich Public Transport - Tram Track Renovation in Altstetten

The rapid-hardening concrete Q-FLASH 5/20 from Concretum was used for the tram track renovation at the Lindenplatz tram stop (Altstetten – Zurich) on tram line 2. The Q-FLASH 5/20 achieves a compressive strength of 20 MPa just 5 hours after installation, enabling tasks such as track renovation and reopening for traffic on the same day, minimizing inconvenience for travellers.

The evening before, new tracks were laid in both directions. As shown in the photos, the concrete was applied over a width of approximately 6 meters, a length of around 15 meters, and a depth of 20 centimeters.

For this project, the concrete was produced at the Ebirec concrete plant operated by Eberhard Bau AG in Rümlang. With the addition of retarders, the concrete remained workable for 2 hours. The concreting process was carried out just like conventional concrete. The concrete installation began at 8:30 a.m., with a total of 29 m³ of concrete used.
