From April to October 2021, Concretum was part of the civil engineering project "Maintenance of Runway 10/28," which included the refurbishment of the central strip, the construction of new transformer stations, and the replacement of runway and approach lighting with LED systems.
In 2021, preparatory works for the runway maintenance and runway lighting took place. This included the partial or full replacement of concrete slabs, as well as local repairs of edges, joints, and corner breaks. Additionally, new pipelines were installed, and the concrete slabs, with a total volume of approximately 1,800 m³, were renewed using rapid-hardening concrete Q-FLASH 2/20. Approximately 4 tons of Q-CON rapid-hardening mortar were also used.
To maintain flight operations and avoid closing operationally relevant traffic areas, the construction work was carried out over approximately 40 night shifts. During each working night, about 5½ hours were available to complete the work before the affected airside areas were reopened in the morning.
