Concretum's dry-mix solutions are increasingly gaining recognition in international markets, including Southeast Asia. In the Philippines, our products Concretum® Q-REP G and Concretum® Q-CON were successfully deployed in trial applications at two airports. Concrete repair works under tropical climate conditions place exceptionally high demands on both materials and application procedures.
• Pavement surface temperature: approx. 50°C (122°F)
• Ambient temperature: above 30°C (86°F)
• Relative humidity: above 90%
Despite these extreme environmental conditions, both products demonstrated outstanding performance. The successful repairs confirm the high climate resilience and reliability of our systems, even in environments that present significant challenges for conventional repair materials. The project owner, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), expressed great satisfaction with the results.
At Iba Airport (Zambales Airport), a deteriorated section of the taxiway was rehabilitated. The project involved a concrete-to-concrete repair, utilizing our high-performance repair mortar Concretum® Q-REP G. Repair operations commenced at 5:00 PM with the removal of the damaged concrete section, followed by the placement of the repair material. Owing to the rapid strength development of the system, the repaired area was reopened to aircraft operations by 7:00 PM, just two hours after the start of the intervention.
A second trial application was carried out at Plaridel Airport, where a section of the runway required rehabilitation. In this case, the challenge was to create a durable concrete-to-asphalt transition. Our rapid-hardening concrete Concretum® Q-CON was selected for the project. As with the taxiway repair, work began at 5:00 PM with the removal of the distressed pavement section and the subsequent placement of the material. The repaired area was handed back to the airport operator by 7:00 PM, enabling a remarkably short closure period.
These two successful applications clearly demonstrate the advantages of Concretum technology for critical infrastructure assets such as airports. Thanks to the rapid strength gain of our dry-mix systems, repairs can be completed within extremely short timeframes, minimizing runway and taxiway closures and significantly reducing operational disruptions. We would like to express our sincere appreciation to Olongapo Maintenance Services, Inc. for their excellent cooperation and professional execution on site. We look forward to continuing our successful partnership in the Philippines and contributing to the fast, durable, and sustainable maintenance of airport infrastructure in the years ahead.
